農曆新年快到了，首先祝福大家在新一個年頭事事順利、身體健康。這樣二零一九年的一月就這樣過去了。新的一年如上年的九月至十二月一樣，時間瞬間即逝。這個月可算是一個充實的月份。 在一月五日，即二零一九年的第一個星期六，當天早上下着雨，令我和體育老師們都十分擔心。因為這天我們舉辦了排球隊選拔日。這個活動約有70人參加，十分熱鬧。幸好，天公造美，開始時雨便停下來了。多謝工友們辛勤地為我們清理地上的積水。排球教練加上我們的體育老師在兩小時內，做了很多不同的測試，學生們在老師的要求下，快快樂樂地完成了所有測試。我們當中選了兩隊排球隊成員，分別是高、低年級的男子組。由於女子組參加人數不足，只好先舉辦男子組。我們為什麼在眾多運動中選擇了排球活動？原因很簡單，我在中學時因為被挑選成為排球隊員而改變了自己，成為一個勇於承擔、面對困難及堅毅的人。而且認識了一班好隊員，甚至到現在，我們仍然經常聯絡，有如家人一樣。加上畢業後的我也成為排球隊的教練，更取得學界第一組別的冠軍，我也希望將這項運動帶到「劉德容」，希望這能成為我們的學校亮點。

First of all, wishing all of you have a prosperous year with good health in the Year of the PIG. The first month of 2019 has just passed. It passed by just as fast as the previous four months. It was such a substantial month for us.
On 5th January, 2019, it was the first Saturday of the year. On that day, it rained in the morning. All the PE teachers and I were worried as it was the selection day for volleyball team members. Almost 70 students thronged to join. It was a boisterous crowd as their parents also stood there to watch for 2 hours. Fortunately, the rain stopped in the beginning of this activity. Thank you to all the janitors who came to help us clean the wet floor. All the PE teachers and volleyball coaches gave different physical tests to students within 2 hours and there was no break for them to take a rest. They completed all the tests happily without any complaints. Finally, we selected 2 teams of members for the higher and lower form of the boys’ volleyball team. I am sorry that the number of girls was not enough to set a team so we will try to set it up again later. Why does the school set up the volleyball team instead of others? When I was young, I was completely transformed to be a hardworking, positive and responsible student after participating with perseverance in the volleyball team. More importantly, I met a group of good teammates who always supported each other. Even now, we always keep in touch like a family. After graduation, I became the volleyball team coach for 5 years and we won the champion in Division 1. I hope I can bring this sport item to LTY and introduce to our students. I wish for us to get a good result in this sport and to earn a good reputation for our school.

一月十一日至十二日，一連兩日是我們學校的開放日。今年，一如以往，開放了校園，展示學生的學習成果讓大家欣賞及了解。本年度學校發展重點之一為提升學生的自信心，我們希望給予學生多些機會在台上表演，今年我們安排了三場表演，一方面可以讓大家欣賞我們的精彩表演，展示他們學習的成果，另一方學生也多了表演機會，增強他們的自信心。另外，我們在操場準備了體適能的體驗區，好讓大家了解一下自己的體質。很多老師、工友也在這體驗區一展身手，我發現原來學校也有不少「忍世高人」呢！希望藉住這個體驗區，學生、家長、老師、工友或其他來賓，去了解自己身體的狀況，繼而計劃一下自己的運動計劃。畢竟保持身體健康，是十分重要的。

11th – 12th January, 2019, it was Open Day. The school was open to let visitors know more about our school. We showed our students’ work from different subjects. This was a bit different than last year as students had to perform for 3 times to show what they learnt this year in their ECA classes. It provided more opportunities for our students to perform and it helped to build their confidence to perform in public. Also, we set up a new venue to let visitors play the items in physical fitness like hand grip test, sit-and-reach test and so on. They could have a general idea about their own body condition. I found out that lots of teachers and janitors have a good body condition as they did so well in the above test. I hope students, parents, teachers, janitors and other people understand their own body condition and plan to do some exercise to keep their own body fit.

這兩天，除了老師們忙碌地工作外，一班家長教師會的成員連日製作精美的花燈、全盒作義賣。有些家長更製作至凌晨時分，真的辛苦了他們。是次義賣所籌得的款項將會捐贈至香港保護兒童會。另外，在1月25日，家長教師會舉辦了年糕製作班，參加者十分踴躍，各人懷着興奮的心情，投入地製作年糕。最後，大家製作了一條條的鯉魚狀的年糕，栩栩如生。我當然要試味一下，吃了一口，十分美味，更笑弄他們是從外面的店舖購買回來的。家長們更要求多舉辦各類型家長興趣班，學習不同的技能，我當然舉手支持！衷心感謝他們對學校的熱誠，令我更不可以怠慢，繼續努力發展學校。

In these 2 days, besides teachers being busy with work, the members of PTA were also busy making beautiful lanterns and Chinese Candy Boxes for charity. Some of the parents made these products until mid-night. Thank you so much for your enthusiasm to help those in needs. All the money will be donated to Hong Kong Society for the Protection of Children. On 25th January, 2019, our PTA held a class for making Chinese Pudding Cake. Lots of parents came to join and they made a carp-shaped Chinese Pudding Cake and it was amazing. When I tasted it, it was delicious and I made a joke with them that they bought it from the shop outside. Everyone laughed. They asked me to let them hold more interest classes for the parents to learn different techniques. Of course, I totally agreed. I really want to take this opportunity to show my gratitude to them for their zeal. I should work harder to keep on developing the school.

學校接到教育局的學校質素保證組通知，將於二月中旬到校作校外評核。他們一行五人將會進駐學校五天，進行觀課、查閱文件、面談、視察校舍等工作，最後會為學校撰寫一份報告書，評價學校的管理、教學、學生表現……我們當然會有信心去完成這次「考試」。正所謂：「未雨綢繆，總好過臨渴先來掘井。」所以我們在一月中，差不多每天放學也舉行會議，好讓各人作最好的準備。老師這邊廂要聆聽校長的講解、閱讀相關文件、討論、記錄、準備及整理文件等，另一邊廂同學們正在進行上學期期考，他們又要為同學們批改試卷，更要準備下學期的教材，可算是忙上加忙。希望學生及家長也要多為老師們打氣及多加一點體諒。

The school received the notification from the Department of Quality Assurance for Schools of EDB to have an External School Review in mid-February. There will be 5 people to come and visit us. They will do the lesson observation, check the documents, interview, observe the school premises and so on. Then they will write a report to the school to evaluate the domains of school management, learning and teaching, students’ performance and so forth. Of course, we have confidence to finish this ‘test’. Getting prepared is important for us now. Therefore, we have had meetings every single day after school for the preparation. Teachers have listened to the explanation from the principal. They will also read the relevant documents, have discussion, take records and prepare documents. They need to marks students’ examination papers and record the marks simultaneously. They are extremely busy. I hope all the students and parents can show your support and empathy to the teachers.

正當大家忙碌得連氣也透不過來時，學校已經被佔據了。在一月十六日的早上，一名家長發現學校外牆多了一個像球狀的「鳥巢」。她立即通知老師，當老師把相片展示給我看時，我十分驚訝，因為我知道它不是甚麼「鳥巢」，而是巧奪天工的虎頭蜂的蜂巢。他的外表十分美麗，有着自己的格式，內裏更有如迷宮一樣的、複雜的，但有着精巧的設計，虎頭蜂可算是大自然的設計師。由於虎頭蜂是一種危險的昆蟲，我立即通知政府部門，他們迅速安排人員到校清理，更邀請消防署前來協助，因為蜂巢的位置太高，要用雲梯才可以接近作清拆。花了20分鐘，清拆工作便完成了，學生們也可以順利如常放學。衷心多謝食環署的員工及消防員的協助。

When we were all so busy with our work, our school ‘was invaded’. In the morning of 16th January, 2019, one of our parents found out that there was a ball-shaped bird’s nest built outside the window of our school on the sixth floor. She informed the teacher and the picture was shown to me. I was shocked as it was not a bird’s nest but it was a beehive. The bees which lived inside are called ‘Vespa Mandarinia’. This bee is lethal but the beehive is built like a maze. It is complicated with a beautiful pattern and organization. ‘Vespa Mandarinia’ is such an architect in nature. Of course, for our students’ safety, we called the Food and Environmental Hygiene Department and the Fire Services Department to help. They spent about 20 minutes to demolish the beehive and the students could dismiss as usual. Thank you so much to the Food and Environmental Hygiene Department and the Fire Services Department for their enthusiasm for helping citizens.

我校的籃球隊正式成立，並在1月24日當天參加校際籃球比賽。他們只練習了數次，便組隊成軍，參加比賽。首場以13比3初嘗到勝利的滋味。因此他們晉級十六強，於1月28日進行比賽，由於對手為種子隊，實力強勁，所以我們未能晉級。隊員們懷着失望的心情回校，我鼓勵他們這次已經是很好的成績，這也是他們第一次的比賽，正所謂「失敗乃成功之母。」我們日後一定會取得好成績。衷心多謝張嘉進老師的訓練及安排，亦欣賞學生付出的努力。在1月28日的上午，我們低年級的學生參加了第55屆學界舞蹈節小學低年級組中國舞（群舞）比賽，我們取得甲級獎。多謝導師及學生的努力。

在我上任校長一職之前，蘇校長已細心地為我們安排在8月30日至31日到訪江門市新會圭峰小學。我們倆校早已結成姊妹學校，亦進行過交流。為進一步落實本年度之交流細則，在1月27日我們邀請了圭峰小學馮校長及行政老師到本校商討細節，我們共識了一個雙贏又豐富的計劃。之後，我們更一起聚餐，好讓我們一盡地主之儀。

Before I became the Principal of LTY, the former Principal Mr. So helped us arrange a trip to Jiangmen San Wui on 30th -31st August, 2019. We mainly visited Kwai Fung Primary School. Two of our schools have been connected under the Sister School Scheme. We had several exchange activities before. For the further implementation of the exchange for this year, Principal Fung and his administration team had a meeting with us at our school on 27th January, 2019. We compromised a ‘win-win’ and fruitful plan for the coming exchange activity. After the meeting, we had a meal together to show our hospitality.

一月三十一日為我們一年一度的中華文化日，當天，大家也穿上有中國特色的衣服回校參加這個特別的活動。學校安排了攤位遊戲、課室活動等，當然，部份學生亦有機會在台上表演。我喜歡寫字，所以我便到寫揮春的攤位寫字，希望鼓勵大家要寫得一手好字。最後，我成為了家長、老師、學生的寫揮春書法家。幸好，學生寫了這些「特別」的揮春送給我，以作鼓勵，十分感動！這令我全日也活在溫暖之中，謝謝你們。家長們亦為學生及老師準備一些賀年食品，好讓大家也先感受一下農曆新年的氣氛。希望同學們可以藉着這天文化日，好好去了解一下我們的節日習俗，好讓這些習俗得以延續下去。

On 31st January, 2019, it was the Chinese Culture Day. All of us wore Chinese traditional costume back to school to join this special event. Game booths and classroom activities were arranged for students to play and learn. I love handwriting, so I went to the booth of writing spring couplet. I wish to encourage my students to write beautifully. Finally, I became Chinese calligrapher to write lots of spring couplets to the students, parents and teachers. Fortunately, my students wrote me some special spring couplets for encouragement, I was touched. It really made my day. Thank you so much. Some students had a chance to perform on stage. Some of the parents as volunteers prepared and cooked some Chinese Traditional food for us to taste. We could feel the atmosphere of Lunar New Year beforehand, how lucky we were! I wish students could learn more Chinese customs and allow such good customs to continue from generation to generation.
